Notts County went down 3-2 at home to Maidenhead United on Saturday, having led 2-1 at half-time.

Jimmy Knowles and Ruben Rodrigues’ first goals for the club were outweighed by a first-half Sam Barratt brace and Danilo Orsi in the second.

Starting XI

Sam Slocombe – Held a couple of decent efforts at points, couldn’t do much about the second two Maidenhead goals. Distribution fairly solid as usual with Notts building from the back. 6.

Damien McCrory Nice work and assist for Knowles’ opener. Ran back to make an important block when the Maidenhead player looked nailed-on to score. Blazed a shot way over in the last few minutes. Operating on the opposite flank to his preferred position of left-back. 5.

Connell Rawlinson – Beaten all ends up for Orsi’s winner. 5.

Alex Lacey – Looked largely composed in possession as usual when Notts were passing well in the first half. Suits Ardley’s playing style down to the ground when it’s all clicking. Replaced by Ben Turner in the second half. 5.

Adam Chicksen – Fairly safe in possession, kept the ball well. Played in Ruben Rodrigues down the left a few times before the Portuguese was withdrawn in the second half. 6.

Michael Doyle – Still able to pick a pass at 39, calming influence on the ball. Understandably caught out by the pace of the long ball for Orsi’s goal in the second half. 6.

Jake Reeves – Has an uncanny ability to find space and pick a pass at times. Really looked a cut above when Notts were on top in the first half. 8.

Ruben Rodrigues – Nice feet to beat a couple of players and slot home his first goal in English football to give Notts the lead for the second time. Silky smooth in possession when things were going well in the first half, could really do well in the National League this season. Replaced by Elisha Sam in the second period. 7.

Enzio Boldewijn – Nice backheel flick to send Rodrigues away for his goal in the first half, tracked back well at times to win the ball back inside his own half. Sat very tight to the inside for much of proceedings, didn’t provide the wide option needed in Cal Roberts’ absence. Replaced by Matty Wolfe. 5.

Jimmy Knowles – Really exciting player. Has a bit of a spark about him, exciting every time he gets on the ball, keeps hold of it well. Good positioning for his goal just four minutes in. Will get bums off seats if fans are back in grounds towards the end of his loan spell. 7.

Kyle Wootton – Very little service in the first half, feeding off scraps at best. Got more involved in the second half, coming deep to win possession back but was never really in the game in the way that had brought him four goals in the first four league games of the season. 5.

Matty Wolfe – Replaced Ruben Rodrigues in the second half. Showed some nice touches including a roulette by the touchline, showing why he’s so highly-rated by Barnsley fans. 6.

Elisha Sam – Massive presence not just aerially but, like Wootton, didn’t really have too much service after coming on. Deliveries went straight to Ashby-Hammond in the Maidenhead goal more often than not. 6.

Ben Turner – Good low header blocked on the line right at the death, which was probably the best chance Notts had to equalise. 6.
