Notts County have announced the signing of Alex Lacey until the end of the 2019-20 season.
The former Gillingham centre-back has been brought in to supplement Notts’ defensive options following Sam Graham’s injury in September.
Lacey has been training with Notts for two weeks already, after being expected to join Bury before they were expelled from the EFL in August.
Neal Ardley will hope the 26-year-old’s arrival can further bolster a back line which is currently contributing to the best goal difference in the National League.
Connell Rawlinson and Ben Turner have impressed during the Magpies’ improved run of form, and though Damien McCrory can fill in should either sustain an injury or suspension, the Irishman is most effective out wide.
Lacey won promotion out of the fifth tier with Luton Town in 2014 before spending two seasons at Yeovil Town. A 2016-17 Player of the Season award at Huish Park was enough to earn the centre-back, who can also function as a defensive midfielder, a move to Gillingham.
He is unlikely to face Ebbsfleet United when Notts visit in the FA Cup on Saturday, but isn’t believed to be a million miles away from threatening Turner or Rawlinson’s starting place.
